In 2023, Stéphane Dubé found a studio in rural Japan and kept on painting small creatures around him, this time dragonflies flying over rice fields. “Dragonfly” cycle comprises 4 large scale compositions, painted in summer 2024.
Because of this insect’s symbolic importance in Japanese tradition, Museo d’Arte Orientale di Venezia made him an offer of a solo show focused on the “Dragonfly” cycle, entitled “Dragonfly and other insects”, on the occasion of the upcoming Biennale Arte Venezia. This exhibition showcases 27 paintings, including all the four large scale compositions of “Dragonfly” as well as “Dead snake” (2025) and “Insect Head”(2025), sequel to “Moths” cycle.
